French 75 Gun

In 1898 the French army adopted a revolutionary new piece of field artillery, the Matériel de 75mm Mle 1897 or as it came to be called in English, the French 75. The gun is considered to be the first modern artillery piece because of its rapid firing system. It used a hydro-pneumatic recoil absorbing mechanism that allowed the crew of six to fire the gun repeatedly at a target without re-aiming after every shot. By the end of WWI, about 12,000 had been produced and were in use by many different armies including the British and Americans.

The gun in this model is the 1901 version. The model is based primarily on museum photos. There are some missing pieces in the model due to the fact that they are not in most of the available pictures:  the telescopic sight and two leather pouches on the back side of the shield. This is my second effort modelling this gun.

The Little Grey Fergie Restoration Project

 “The Ferguson TE20 (Tractor, England 20 Horse Power) is an agricultural tractor designed by Harry Ferguson. By far his most successful design, it was manufactured from 1946 until 1956, and was commonly known as the Little Grey Fergie. It marked a major advance in tractor design, distinguished by lightweight, small size, manoeuvrability and versatility. The TE20 popularised Harry Ferguson's invention of the hydraulic three-point hitch system around the world, and the system quickly became an international standard for tractors of all makes and sizes that has remained to this day. The tractor played a large part in introducing widespread mechanised agriculture. In many parts of the world the TE20 was the first tractor to be affordable to the average farmer and was small and light enough to replace the draft horse and manual labour. Many TE20s remain in regular use in farming and other work and the model is also a popular collector's item for enthusiasts today.”

The Fergie is 2.921 m (9’ 7”) long, 1.625 m (5’ 4”) wide and 1.320 m (4’ 8”) high.

Ready for the State Fair

This model is based on the steam powered traction engines produced by the J.I. Case Threshing Machine Company of Racine, WI, USA. These engines were built from the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s and are typical of the style used by many American manufacturers. This particular machine was the 45 H.P. Traction Engine No. 24270 built in 1904. These tractors were used in agriculture, logging and road work. The model was made from the many photos and drawings of both original and refurbished tractors. This is my third version of the model. About 13 years ago I built a model of this tractor in SketchUp and this one is the second using Blender.

Volocopter GmbH designs electrically powered, multi-rotor helicopters for air taxies that can be piloted or drones. Another model, the Volodrone, is a pilotless heavy lifter designed to be used in agriculture, logistics, construction and humanitarian work.  The crop spraying rig is made by John Deere. The current models have 18 rotors powered by nine batteries. The company proudly proclaims its copters as safe, quiet and green. The first prototype flight took place in 2011 and was followed by a series of successful equity funding drives. A major investor is Daimler AG.
