Volocopter GmbH designs electrically powered, multi-rotor helicopters for air taxies that can be piloted or drones. Another model, the Volodrone, is a pilotless heavy lifter designed to be used in agriculture, logistics, construction and humanitarian work. The current models have 18 rotors powered by nine batteries. The company proudly proclaims its copters as safe, quiet and green. The first prototype flight took place in 2011 and was followed by a series of successful equity funding drives. A major investor is Daimler AG.
